Parish Life

Parish life at St. Luke’s is vibrant and diverse, in part because this congregation embraces and celebrates our differences and our oneness. Whether it is one of our Family Fun Days or our Fifth Sunday Potluck dinners, this multiracial and multicultural parish is intentional about nurturing a spirit of community among its members.

We are steeped in both an Anglo-Catholic spirituality and an African-American spirituality that has been woven together to give us a unique tradition among parishes of the Diocese of East Tennessee. Here is a community that very much enjoys worshipping, working and playing together.

We are first and foremost a Eucharistic community for whom beauty and grace is seen in our worship and in our witness. We not only worship Jesus in the Liturgy, but we seek to witness to him through our commitment to justice and equality in our community. For us we take to heart the words of Archbishop Desmond Tutu when he said; “For Christians, who believe they are created in the image of God, it is the Godhead, diversity in unity and the three-in-oneness of God, which we and all creation reflect.”
